Instructors have the option of configuring an assignment to allow students the ability to resubmit their papers to an assignment. Enabling this option will let students submit updated versions of their papers up until the due date of the assignment. When students resubmit, the previous version of their paper will be overwritten by their latest submission. Only one submission at a time can exist for each student in the assignment inbox.
In order to allow students to resubmit a paper, the “Generate Originality Reports for student submissions:” setting for the assignment must have been set to either “on due date” or “immediately (can overwrite reports until due date)” at the time the assignment was created*.
To set this option when creating an assignment, please do the following:
- Sign into your account.
- Click on the class name.
- Click on the “Add Assignment” link.
- Name the assignment.
- Set the due date and time.
- Click on the "Optional settings" link.
- Select your preference from the “Generate Originality Reports for student submissions:” pull down menu. See definitions below.
- Click “submit”.
*Note: After an assignment is created, it can still be edited by clicking on the "More Actions" link to the right of the assignment and choosing "edit settings." Then follow steps 6-8 above.
Definitions:
- Immediately (first report is final):
Allows students to submit only once and generates an Originality report.
- Immediately (can overwrite reports until due date)
Allows students to submit multiple times (eg. allows for resubmissions) and generates updated Originality Reports. It will take 24 hours to generate a new Originality Report after a paper is resubmitted. Papers can only be resubmitted until the assignment due date. If the setting to allow submissions after the due date is turned on, only students who have not yet submitted a paper will be able to submit.
-On Due Date
Allows students to submit multiple times. However, this option will create only one Originality report on the Due date of the assignment. Papers can only be resubmitted until the assignment due date. If the setting to allow submissions after the due date is turned on, only students who have not yet submitted a paper will be able to submit.
Final Note: Once the due date for the assignment passes, the Originality Reports are automatically regenerated. This allows the final paper to be checked against, not only theTurnitin database, but the final papers submitted by their classmates in the class. If two classmates have submitted papers with a strong match, the final Originality Report is when the instructor will see this problem.
